Very sad cactus. Here’s how you feel when your spines (or menu tabs) fall out.
WordPress sheds its menu items.
Can you believe it!
TADA has been down, and up and down again for more than a couple of days, in part because half the top menu was ripped out by unknown causes. Might have been a PHP problem; might not. Part of it has been restored, I’m still still working on the rest. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Update. So, meanwhile, I’ve been doing a little research. When the menu blew up the other day, it left a trail of red error codes in the menu dashboard stating, “The given object ID is not that of a menu item“. It seems that WordPress has a built-in limitation. You can’t really put more than 40 menu items on a WordPress menu … not for long, anyway. Because the menu can blow up and disintegrate at any time. This limitation is apparently designed into WordPress. Which, I think you will agree, is totally insane.
So, before I spend time completely reviewing the whole top menu, and reconstructing the 30 or so missing item tabs that WordPress just decided to turf, I am looking into the possibility of a plugin to stabilize the menu. Please bear with me.
Update #2. Okay, folks. I think I may have found something. The Max Mega Menu plugin site explains why the number of menu items is limited in wordpress, and suggests a way to increase the number of menu items. It’s nearly my beddy-bye time, so I’m gonna park this how-to link here, and work on it tomorrow. Wish me luck.
