Marina had two greenhouses, one on the back of the home, the other on the grounds at 8591 Lochside Drive, North Saanich, British Columbia, former headquarters of “The Amateurs Digest”. These images are from the realtors’ photos taken to sell the property.
Origin of Marina’s Free-Standing Greenhouse
I can’t believe my luck. I wrote to just one BC company that makes greenhouses, BC Greenhouse Builders Limited, to ask for information. Turns out they are in fact the makers of Marina’s freestanding greenhouse.
BC Greenhouse Builders Limited celebrated 70 years in business in 2021. I paid a visit to their web site a couple of days ago, where a chat popup says, “Thanks for visiting BC Greenhouse Builders! Got a question? I’m happy to help.” So, I sent a question, along with photos, to try to learn a bit more about Marina’s hobby. Amazingly, the identity of Marina’s free-standing greenhouse (the last two oval photos above, and our web site header) has been revealed!
Hannah Nicklas, of BC Greenhouse Builders Limited, was kind enough to answer my query on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 @ 4:27 PM.
Hi Kathleen,
Thank you for reaching out to us about this. I’m happy to provide information on what I do have knowledge about.
Only the greenhouse in the second photo is manufactured by us. It is a Single Glass Traditional style greenhouse. It looks to be about 12’ X 14’ in size. Typically, this style within that climate is used to extend someone’s growing season.
The black cloth is called Shade Cloth. It is a way for gardeners to control some of the light entering the greenhouse. Mainly it’s used as temperature control during the summer months without impeding plants’ access to lighting.
Unfortunately, as the other greenhouse and the hoop structure are not our products, I don’t have insight into their potential uses or the material that was used to build them.
I do hope the information I provided helps you out in your research!
Thank you, Hanna! That was very helpful, indeed. And I’m sure Marina’s readers, old and new, will appreciate it.
