As you can see, this is not a terribly attractive specimen … lumpy, scarred, sparsely covered with small but very sharp spines.
Nevertheless once a year it produces one or two very large, pure white flowers. They open in the middle of the night, and last only through the next afternoon. This was the first time it produced two blooms simultaneously. The larger one was 12cm in diameter and about 15cm long.
